Walk-and-talk counselling in and around Teesdale

Walk-and-Talk Therapy
“Sometimes the clearest thoughts arrive when your feet are moving,
and the landscape is quietly holding you.”

Walk-and-Talk Therapy
At Curlew Counselling, Walk and Talk Therapy offers a nature-based alternative to face-to-face or online sessions. Retaining the direct therapeutic contact, this approach allows us to work side by side rather than face to face in the therapy room. Moving at a steady pace through the natural landscape of Teesdale may help you feel calmer, grounded and more open to explore what is happening to you inside. Walking can soften the intensity of talking about difficult things. The rhythm of movement, the openness of the landscape, the grounding and healing presence of nature can all help you feel more comfortable and settled.
Set in the beautiful AONB area of Teesdale, the journey will take us through the calming wooded area of Hudeshope Beck or in the more open countryside across fields and trackways – the choice will be yours but will be where we can walk side by side and not scramble! The journey finishes back at Belvedere House for a warm drink and reflection on the session.
Sessions last 60 minutes and follow the same therapeutic structure as indoor face-to-face work. We walk at a pace that feels comfortable for you, pausing whenever needed. There is also an optional guided meditation if you feel this is something you would like to do.
At Curlew Counselling, the focus of the session remains the same: supporting you to feel heard, understood and grounded. Therefore, Walk-and-Talk Therapy can be a good option if you:

- Feel more relaxed in nature
- Prefer movement to sitting still
- Find talking easier when walking
- Want a less formal, more spacious environment
Please note: these sessions are subject to changes due to inclement weather or seasonal daylight hours. It is expected you dress appropriately for outdoor walking. In the event that we cannot do a Walk-and-Talk session, we will have the session in the therapy room at Belvedere House.
